“Why are women quick to bust on other women?”
Our very own Kate Farrar does an awesome job answering a sort of leading question
We are taught from a very young age to judge women on their appearance and not who they are.
I think that if we blame this perception on women, we’re missing the boat on the messages that we’re sent by media, by our peers, and by our family on judging women on their appearances first.

Name: Christine
Sorority: Zeta Tau Alpha - California State University, Fullerton (CSUF)
Leadership lesson: I learned the importance of mentorship and how to mentor from my women’s fraternity. As a leader, it was important for me to find mentors that would help me in my projects. When I felt more confident in my leadership skills, I knew that I had to mentor younger mentors and prepare them to take the lead. I really value the relationships that I had with my peers and with alumnae.
You can see that I’m wearing my badge at a student affairs conference a few years ago. I’ll be wearing it again at another student affairs conference today. It’s always fun to see who my Panhellenic sisters are in my profession.

Name: Nzinga
Sorority: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.- University of Maryland, College Park (Alma Mater officially on May 20th – WOO HOO!)
Leadership Lesson: The biggest leadership lesson that I have learned over these past months is the ability to realize when you need to encourage others to take initiative and giving credit to those who do not often receive it. As an extrovert, I am usually very passionate and will quickly step up when there is a task at hand. Understanding that leaders also have to realize when they need to step back and let others shine is something that Delta has allowed me to learn. Additionally, Delta has taught me to give credit when due especially to those who usually fly under the radar.

Name: Marie
Sorority: Kappa Alpha Theta - University of Maryland, College Park
Leadership lesson: For two years, I was in my sorority’s philanthropy committee as the alumnae and family relations chair and then website chair. By working with my peers and friends to manage events and new initiatives, I learned about my personal leadership styles. It takes practice to work out your strengths and through your weaknesses, so being surrounded by a team is crucial.
