It’s good to see the military acknowledge how damaging and widespread sexual abuse in the ranks really is. Now it’s time for action.
A survivor’s boss shouldn’t be the one to decide what happens after sexual assault. That’s why the Sexual Assault Training Oversight and Prevention Act, or STOP Act, would create an independent, professional office in the military to investigate and prosecute sexual assault, instead of leaving the decisions in the hands of commanders who can act at their own discretion.
