While the gender wage gap is better than it was in, say, 1940, progress has stopped: It hasn’t even budged 20 cents in over 50 years – or moved at all in the last 10.
WTF.
This means less money for recent women graduates to pay off their student loans. This means less funds for working women to put by for retirement. This means a tightened budget for families, who increasingly depend on women as their primary breadwinners.
The wage gap affects all of us. WTF, wage gap?
One year out of college, women in the workforce already face unfair pay.
According to the latest research report by AAUW, paycheck differences between college-educated men and women can start in the first paycheck – and 7 percent of the gap can’t be explained by factors like industry or college major.
