Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was officially sworn in on November 4th, 2015, gives a very simple answer as to why he decided to have 15 men and 15 women on his cabinet.

We couldn’t agree more with Trudeau. It’s 2015! Women are valuable to the workplace and in leadership. We must continue to open doors and shatter ceilings!

Who needs ghost stories? There’s nothing scarier than real-life gender inequality.

Research shows that stereotypes and gender bias are largely to blame for keeping women out of leadership positions. Many states have yet to elect a woman governor or woman Senator, and only two women of color have ever served in the U.S. Senate. If we want change, it’s imperative that we train and empower women to run for office.

¿Qué Pasa, USA? The State of the Latina Address

When Ileana Ros-Lehtinen ran for Congress in 1989, she told her opponents that she would run and she would win, because no one would outwork her. She became the first Latina ever elected to Congress.

Today, Latinos are the largest U.S. minority population, yet the United States has never had a Latina Senator. Only 11 Latinas have ever served in Congress.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the incredible strides Hispanic and Latina women such as Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Justice Sonia Sotomayor have made, but there’s still work to be done.

Seriously, ¿qué pasa, USA? We can do better!

Learn how you can help more young Latina women run and win elections.

Happy 80th Birthday, Social Security!

Can You Pass Our Social Security Quiz?

  • Nearly 60 percent of people receiving Social Security benefits are women.
  • Social Security is especially critical to women because of the gender pay gap.
  • The program supports millions of older women — more than half of whom would fall into poverty without it.
  • Although Social Security needs reform, the program isn’t broken beyond repair.

Get the answers.

Roll Call: Senators Blast Military After General Overturns Sexual Assault Verdict

A guilty verdict against a military pilot accused of rape was overturned by an Air Force General. Now some senators are saying that the system discourages women from reporting sexual assault.

“There is no justice in a military system that allows a general to overturn the decision of a judge or jury in a court martial. Generals are not above the law,” Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., said in an emailed statement. “The reason why rape victims in the military do not report the crimes is precisely for this reason — they think the system is rigged to protect the accused.”

Some senators are fighting against sexual assault on military women. Read more about it here.

In our latest pep talk, Emily tells the story of finding her own voice to speak up for her family.

As the daughter of two moms, Emily grew up in Massachusetts. She was 14 when the state’s marriage debate began, putting Emily’s family at the receiving end of nasty political rhetoric.

One radio station took it too far, and Emily called in to respond to a conversation about the children of LGBT parents. That day, Emily realized the importance of her voice and her experiences.

This Tuesday, November 6, Emily will use her voice and vote. Will you join her?
